Folks,
I have an update regarding CSX the good news is that the ex-L&N line east of Mobile didn't suffer much damage nothing big. But the West of Mobile we don't know. The CSX Yard Gentily Yard in New Orelans isn't that bad but there is some damage.

From another on-line site:

CSXT HURRICANE KATRINA DAMAGE UPDATE: Most of the severe damage to the CSXT physical plant from Hurricane Katrina occurred on the 146.4 mile long NO&M Subdivision between Gentilly Yard in New Orleans, LA and Sibert Yard in Mobile, AL. Aerial observation indicates near destruction at the following locations; Ocean Springs, MS (milepost 722.8), Biloxi, MS (milepost 727.0), Gulfport, MS (milepost 739.4), Bay St. Louis, MS (milepost 754.2), Rigolets, LA (milepost 776.5), and Chef Menteur, LA (milepost 786.9). Several bridges have been reduced to only pilings and miles and miles of roadbed have been washed away. As bad as the situation is, the human toll in these areas was far worse. It took the Louisville & Nashville nearly two months to completely rebuild the line following Hurricane Camille in 1969, which most now agree was not as destructive. Hurricane Katrina has unfortunately now become the new benchmark(Conrail Technical Society Update - posted 8/31)
