Starting Saturday, December 3, 2005 and running for several days there
will be major delays as large sections of the signal system are down for
the double track project. This weekend on Saturday and Sunday there
will be no train service between either Sheridan Street or Fort Lauderdale
Airport stations and Cypress Creek Stations. A key section of second
track through Fort Lauderdale is apparently being put into service including
a new platform on the east side of the tracks to match the existing platform on the west side of the tracks at Fort Lauderdale.
According to the Sun-Sentinel article, when this work has been finished,
there will only be four miles of single track remaining in Miami Dade
County and the New River Bridge left to finish.

Thanks for the update...any idea on when the New River Bridge will be complete? I'll be taking the Silver Star down to West Palm Beach sometime in January and i'd like to see the progress they've made.

I don't think it will be for a while, I plan to ride it south out of here after
they get the current situation straightened out.
I will advise further after the ride. I also expect to ride up to West Palm
before too long, things keep happening.

Hopefully, we will see some higher speeds on the new track, as it doen't seem like there's too many curves. Also, with the new scheduling, maybe possible expresses???

etc

Won't be more than 79 MPH, there are no cab signals or train control on
this route. Probably fast enough anyway, there are way too many road
crossings all along this line.
I kind of doubt that there will be any express trains as most of the
stations get about equal usage and peak hour use is not nearly at
capacity.

I believe it will be but that does not necessarily mean that the Amtrak
trains will use it, there is only one stairway and one elevator over there
and it might be difficult for Amtrak to handle baggage on that side.
I might know more in a few days.
