At least until the mid-90's, Conrail would route the LMPI (Linden Metuchen PIttsburg) from Oak Island (entering the NEC at LANE interlocking), down the NEC to MORRIS interlocking (west/south of Trenton), and west via the Morrisville Line. Needless to say, this was a nocturnal operation; coming out at LANE after 9:30PM and clearing at MORRIS by 5:30AM.

When LMPI wasn't running, the traffic was handled by some variant of SEMT / MTSE (SElkirk MeTuchen), making an overnight turn between LANE and LINCOLN during the same overnight "curfew".

In addition, Conrail would sometimes run lite engine moves over this same route (Oak Island - Morrisville) to keep a token number of crews qualified on the NEC.

Mail 44 was a Conrail TOFC train from East St Louis to South Kearney.

In addition, the LMPI was also run as the LMTO (Linden/Metuchen - TOledo); just as SEMT was run as TOMT...

The day I caught Mail 44 braking off the extra list,it was a big train with an SD-40-2 in the lead. we went from Hbg to reading south (east)to norristown then over the trenton line to morrisville, hung a right and ran up the corrider to north jersey. SD 40-2 is a joy on the road.
