Conrail ZTS maps (1986/87) show PS&N track on the south side of the PRR main as in service on the east side of the Shawmut wye and some team tracks on the west side of the wye.

When did this track stop being used and when was it ripped out?

Thanks,

Charles

This track was primarily used to serve the Tile Plant for raw materials supply. They put in an unloading shed on the mainline, circa 1980, with a pneumatic pipe running under E. State Street to the Plant.

The remains of the Shawmut were abandoned and torn up shortly thereafter.

By September 1987, the PS&N tracks had been pulled up in Olean

From what I see on the map images the ROW has become a rail trail, including a portion to the southwest that looks to have served some customers along S. Clinton and Barry St. although the current trail ends before that, at Fulton St. where it meets Adams. The overpass labeled filled in above does not appear to be so.

Correct.

On the Dresser-Rand property, it looks like one of their large outbuildings was a portion of a roundhouse. Is this the case and was it the Shawmut's? Thanks

Thanks to several friends, we have developed some more definite dates for the Tile Plant / Shawmut trackage in the earlier posts.

The new Tile Plant siding, at MP 72.1 on the mainline, went into service on September 1, 1977. (ref. Conrail General Order 115)

The Shawmut trackage to the back side of the TIle Plant was in service until approximately late 1982 or early 1983 (ref. the recollections and photos of at least two people who were "right there")

Therefore my recollection of them abandoning the former Shawmut "shortly" after the new siding went in, was not correct.
