I was flipping through an older CR roster, one of the ones with weight-on-drivers for pay purposes from 2/21/1980, and it listed B30-7's 2400-2424. It even showed the weight as 274,500 lbs. I remember the last few C425's being renumbered in the 5000's to make room for this order from GE that never materialized. Anyone have any details?

Interesting. Where did you find this roster?
Conrail, in its first few years, bought lots of SD40-2, some GP40-2, a very small number (10) of C30-7, and a healthy number (141?) of B23-7. I vaguely remember an nnouncement that they were going to get some B30-7, but that order never came through... and I don't remember where I saw the announcement nor which year it was.

Towards the end-- these may have been orders canceled to simplify the transition to the CSX/NS takeover-- Conrail had an order for a small sampling (4 units?) of AC44. And at one time I think it was announced that they were going to acquire some (wide-nose) GP60M.

And 10 U23B's (2789 - 2798) and four U36B's (2971 - 2974).

I also have a CR Eastern Region TT that shows the 2400 series B30-7's, circa the same time; around 1980. I guess the recession of 1982, and the resulting epic storage lines of locos at Selkirk yard, convinced CR to cancel that order.

I just find it intriguing that the mystery EL U23B order is discussed regularly and this GE order seems to stay under the radar.
