I ran across a photo that I took of Conrail locomotive #8019, which was a GP-38-2. Since the breakup of Conrail, what happened to this engine? Hopefully, it wasn't scrapped.

Yours truly,

Ron

It looks like Conrail GP38s 8000-8039 were sold by Conrail in the late 80s to EMDX.

8019 was then sold to UP as #1954 and then renumbered to UP #454.
Sold to LLPX and numbered 2329.
Then in 2004 Iowa Interstate Railroad acquired it, numbering it 717.

FYI Conrail GP-38 #8019 was built in August 1972 as PC #8019 SN 7354-80

From the pictures, she was (probably still is) active as of May 2009.

I think that Conrail actually chose not to renew the leases on this and certain groups of GP38, GP38-2 and GP40 units. Could be that Penn Central could only get a lease with unfavorable terms as far as buyout at the end of the lease term or something. I've never run into specific details on why these units were let go, yet older GP7-9-30-35 units would last another 10 years or so.

Someone's posted photos before - one of this group lasted into at least 2007 in full Penn Central paint (likely a CR paint over wore off from it).
