I am a collector and researcher of gas pressure and heating appliances, including old Coleman lanterns and stoves. Several weeks ago I bought two nearly identical Coleman kerosene lanterns near Fremont, Ohio, that have been stripped of the original green enamel on the ventilators and re-enameled with yellow (above) and white (below) and a white enamel reflector added. One lantern is undated; the other was date stamped by Coleman May, 1969. These Model 237 lanterns are rated at 500 candlepower and are fueled with keosene. Here is an image of the lantern: http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb2/ ... efront.jpg
Does anyone have any evidence that the Erie Lackawanna RR used lanterns of this type for inspection, signalling, or other purpose? It seems to me that a railroad maintenance shop would have been one of the few places that may have had the enamelling facilities to modify these lanterns.
Thank you,
Terry
