Not sure about those two but 1631 was also taken out for repairs, according to the Commuter Rail Facebook page it hit a vehicle at the end of last year, looks like it's being repaired on site and not a place like Delaware.

This might be MBTA coach 379 returning east on NS 310 (I think) heading for Binghamton as seen at Elkhart at 0210 this morning. It was positioned approximately mid train with 40 cars ahead (including 33 loaded auto racks) and about 66 cars behind (including lots of heavy frac sand and grain covered hoppers). Also one of its vestibule doors is open.

The placement of this coach on both trains in and out of Elkhart was scary! 15N was amazing. The 379 was in the middle of about 10 long flatcars with an empty center beam to boot.

Does this "freight service" stress the frame? Does anybody have to answer for the doors not being secured?

Freight conductors don’t carry coach keys.

The in train forces in passenger service aren’t lighter than freight. Sure, freight cars are pulled hard with a lot of weight behind them, but if it’s too much the knuckle lets go. Freight cars don’t go 0-80 12 times per trip and don’t have wheelslide systems that bang the cars into eachother like a Newton’s pendulum.
