The $146 million project will lower the intersection of 130th Street and Torrence so two new bridges carrying the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks can pass over it, Gov. Pat Quinn announced Tuesday morning.

The State of Illinois is paying $64.8 million and Ford Motor is kicking in $1 million. Some money coming too from NICTD, which has tracks that fly over the NS.

That is a very messy area. NICTD had daytime closures this past week (one track of the double track closed) for unspecified work being done in the Ford City area. When this new project is complete it should get the cars out of the trains way - and vice versa.
