Was in the Atlanta-area yesterday and went to lunch at the Bluetop on Peachtree Rd. in Chamblee. On the way there, I was pleasantly surprised to see yard trackage, an unguarded grade crossing for a spur serving a customer nearby, and a building with signage saying "Norfolk Southern Chamblee Terminal," all parallel to Peachtree Rd. There is MARTA trackage there, too.
Anyway, had a great lunch at the Bluetop, (try the Sloppy Joe, and the fried pickles are excellent, too,) and then we left. Headed back the way we came, passing Chamblee Terminal again and there at the station building was a trio of NS power, two GP40-2s and a six-axle GE. Nice surprise!!!! Can anybody comment further on the trackage there and the NS operations and power based there? Thanks much in advance.
