FULTON EVACUATION

UPDATE: American Red Cross has set up a center for shelter and meals at First United Methodist Church in Fulton at 200 Carr Street. A nurse will also be on hand.

Also, Carr Elementary and Fulton High School will both be in session tomorrow.... at the normal time.


Evacuation Details


Police in Fulton, Kentucky are evacuating a plant and a High School after a reported hydrochloric acid leak from a tanker car in the Canadian National Rail Yard in Fulton.


No injuries have been reported. The area could be closed down for 6-8 hours.


Officials on the scene say a 1/2 mile radius around the rail yard has been evacuated. that included about 100 people in homes and students at Carr Elementary and the City High school.


Students were first moved to South Fulton School, but at about 3:30pm, school officials announced those children were being moved to South Fulton Baptist Church where parents can pick them up.


Fulton City Police have requested assistance with traffic detours through Fulton. Kentucky Department of Highways personnel, Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement, and Hickman County Sheriff's Department are responding, according as to KY DOT spokesman Keith Todd.


The Kentucky Department of Highways is asking motorists to avoid the area west of the Fulton rail yard.


This emergency has the potential to impact travel on the Purchase Parkway, U.S. 45, U.S. 51 and a number of state routes through the area.
