Hello,
I am new to railroad.net forum as of saturday april 2, 2005. At that time on railroad.net I had posted a question about Brown's Yard. I am interested in it's history, such things as how large was the yard at one time, any pictures, track plans old back to the 1900's. etc. One response to thisinquiry told me to logon to NJ Railfan, as there are persons who are s knowledgable about this yard, any responses and contacts greatly appreciated Thank you Steve Coraggio e-mail scoraggio1@optonline. net

Brown's Yard is an active yard for ConRail Shared Assets, the CSX and Norfolk Southern jointly owned company. A number of freight trains that provide service to central New Jersey originate there. Brown's is a former PRR yard and appears to be smaller than in the PRR days. In that era, for example, electric-powered coal drags from the west traversed Browns Yard and nearby toward coal dumpers at South Amboy. Nowadays, the catenary is removed and all power is diesel.

Brown's sits on the right-of-way of what was the Camden and Amboy Railroad, one of the first successful railroads in America. Also, the Raritan River Railroad - a short line - interchanged here.

The above is just a quick overview - the following sites can provide photos, history, and a lot more:
