Appreciate any information you folks can share on the operations of the Broadway Limited, especially in the late '40's early '50's. When did it leave New York, what was the arrival time in Chicago and which station in Chicago did it use. Any other schedule information, i.e. station stops, services provided, etc. would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Rodger

It left NY at 1800-- offhand, I'm guessing 1800 Standard Time in the winter and 1800 Daylight Time in the summer, but I'll have to confirm that. In 1938 the schedule became 16 hours each way, then it might have gotten slowed during the war, but after 1946 it reverted to 16 hrs until 1953-1954 when the eastward (?) train dropped to 15 1/2 hrs for a couple years.

It always used Union Station in Chicago, which has been at its present location since 1925.

Looks like after WWII it always left NY at 1800, EST or EDT whichever was in effect. Until 1954 it took 16 hours to Chicago, then for a couple years it was 15-45, then back to 16-00. The eastward train always arrived NY 0930 EST or EDT; its trip took 16-00 until 1954, then 15-30 until at least 1967.

Issue 71 of the NRHS Bulletin, cover date Summer 2006, arrived yesterday, February 26, 2008. There is a marvelous article on the BROADWAY LIMITED by Allen Brougham. He rode the obs from NY to Chicago June 3, 1966, leaving Penn Station (it seems) at 6 p.m. They arrived in Chicago after 15 hours, 45 minutes, that is, 15 minutes early.
