does the CP use a repeater on the north shore of lake ontario ? i live in NY state along the south shore of lake ontario and sometimes can hear the trains/dispatcher and a detector. cant hear it all that all the time but always hear the dispatcher on frequency 161.535

Yeah, most likey you are hearing trains on the "Belleville Subdivision" which runs from Toronto to Smiths Falls, and the frequency you listed is in fact our channel 7. There are towers in Oshawa, Lovekin, Spicer, Brighton, Trenton, Lonsdale, Lens, Tichborne, and Glen Tay. If you happen to hear the detector again, listen for the mileage on the transmission and I can give you a better idea of what tower your hearing the transmission from.
