Does anyone know why on the uptown track at bowing green only the right hand side doors open? Why did they install that grate prohibiting the uptown trains from opening their doors on the left side?

the idea is to seperate the load. when BG opened, it was just the center platform and was an absolute mob scene. the shuttle platform helped, but it was the addition of the extra, northbound platform in the 1970s that helped the most.

The grate also prevented people from climbing through the pantograph gates and safety chains from the offside, which the C/R couldn't observe. It cut down on passenger injuries.
