Over on the B&M forum someone was questioning some land and whether B&M still owned it. I was following the B&A while fooling around on the site. Parts of the line are listed as owned by New York Central Lines, LLC, while other portions say Consolidated Rail Corp., Jacksonville, FL. The oddest part was in Pittsfield. There was a place where one plot was owned by Conrail, while what looked like the main ROW said Penn Central. Moving west, the main line all listed PC as owner. How could a very large portion of a major line not get transferred to Conrail in 1976? Was there a gas line, or some other utility which would make PC want to hold onto this property?

Penn Central still (to date) owns portions of many lines, for some reason.

The Jacksonville address would be CSX headquarters. Remember CSX owns 42% of Conrail (NS 58%), hence the owner as "Consolidated Rail Corp., Jacksonville, FL."

The piece of the end of the Highland Branch between the junction of the main line at Riverside Station and the MTA's new Riverside station (now MBTA) was *supposedly* one of those strange bits, I read somewhere. It wasn't sold with the Highland branch, and Conrail didn't want it because there were no revenue customers. Penn Central didn't pay the taxes on it and the City of Newton didn't foreclose because they didn't want any cleanup liability. Not sure how it has been resolved
