It appears that the BNSF has an MP-15 engine #3700

It appears that the BNSF has an SD-70 engine #3700

I observed the latter today heading WW @ MP 18 Chicago Sub

Of interest, this engine looked freshly shopped and SHARP.

So is BNSF renumbering their SD-70 engines? Possibly the MP-15 has been retired, but even if so, wouldn't BNSF wish to keep their SD-70's with the name numbers?

Enquiring mind is "perplexed"?

BNSF has started using the reporting mark "GN" for its end cab switcher locomotives. They do not have a long term future with the company. So the MP-15 is now GN 3700 not BNSF 3700.

The BNSF 3700 is a Wabtec (GE) ET44C4 model locomotive, not any variant of EMD model. It is less than one year old.

BNSF owns SD70MAC, SD70MACe, SD75M, and SD75I model locomotives. The only significant renumbering of these models has been the renumbering of the surviving SD75M and SD75I models from the 82xx series to the 2xx series with many gaps due to lease returns and a few wrecks.

BNSF 8200 - 8250 SD75M ex-AT&SF 200 - 250 all returned off lease before renumbering
BNSF 250 SD75I ex-BNSF 8301
BNSF 251 - 275 SD75M ex- BNSF 8251 - 8275 BNSF 259 and BNSF 272 have been retired
BNSF 276 - 300 SD75I ex- BNSF 8276 - 8300 BNSF 299 retired BNSF 8300 retired before renumbering
