The siding behind Fresh Direct with the bumper block located close to the switch is Case Paper. Obviously, they don't get cars any more. That switch has been there for a while. I believe that area east of the switch was Wheel Spur yard at one point. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It's right across the tracks from the Yardmasters office.

The last move into Case Paper was when they received empty boxcars to move machinery and materials to another plant. They used to receive alot of Wisconsin Central boxcar loads of paper reems.

Indeed that whole area was wheelspur. Beyond case that siding went east to Montauk Steel, which sat abandoned for years before being rented out by some building materials company (which doesn't take RR loads)

Can the spur in question still be accessed by NYA if the building supply company mentioned in the last post opted to give rail service a try, or would it need work to become usable? Thanks.

remove the bumper block and length the track a bit - it stops right at their fence. if i recall right there was a separate switch into their lot which was removed.

The new and rebuilt Blissville yard is now in service. Railroad Construction Inc. rebuilt three tracks and a stub end track which is accessible from a eastward facing point switch on the C secondary.

The LIRR has also rebuilt #2 Montauk with 136lb. welded rail and lowered the rails under Fresh Pond Road to apparently accomodate high trash cars.

what's the yard being used for? who's the customer?

Noticed LIRR out along these tracks for a week or two at various points along the line doing wok but didn't realize it was welded rail...

Spoke to some NYAR affiliates, one said an ethanol guy is close to moving into Blissville, the other said it's never going to happen. I dunno....
