All very good points, oibu. They needed something with a big "WOW" factor, and the steamer did have that, especially for folks who aren't hung up on historical accuracy or rivet-counting.

The day that I took a ride on the B&ML, there were about 40 people on the train. I was the only rail enthusiast there. The other 39 were people who just wanted to take a scenic train ride through the Maine woods.

Steam engine aside, I think the new owner (BPS) is smart in bring the train back to Belfast. This should have been done by the previous owners when they resumed service after being evicted from the city owned portion.

Need some help identifying this BML equipment. These slides are from Hal Carstens' collection. Slides are stamped with a processing date of October 1987. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

That last shot is definitely the old Belfast Yard, and mid to late 1980s seems like a good bet for the time period. The locomotives, BML 52 (front) and BML 51 (rear) are GE 70-tonners. Both units were purchased new from GE: 51 in 1946, and 52 in 1951.

This is what that duo looked like a few years earlier: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPictur ... id=2397411

Lots of great BML history can be found at: http://cprr.org/Museum/BMLRR/

I posted some info about the photo of the two locomotives. It's the post directly underneath your initial post. I'm still trying to dig up some info on the other two photos.

Come to think of it, I bet Bruce Cooper (the fellow who put together that great B&ML history page) might be able to give you more info on those first two photos. His email address can be found at http://cprr.org/Museum/BMLRR/

To the bingham and anyone else interested: The passenger cars and the tender were there on Saturday afternoon when I drove by. The station & area was offered for lease, I believe for retail developement. But I know not the details.

According to "Northern Rails" published by the 470 Railroad Club in 1978, the flanger #23 was purchased in 1956 and was previously BAR boxcar 9215.
Thank you, sir!

This page shows flanger 23 already on the property in 1949.

The final photograph on that page does show flanger 23 and unless my eyes deceive me it has not yet received the bay window.

I don't see a date in the captions. The reference to 1949 concerns the date the B&M car was converted to a carpenter's shop. On the other hand, it would be good to have some way of cross-checking the information in the Northern Rails booklet.
