Hello,

My name is Eric and I'm new to this forum and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about these Locomotives owned by BC Rail? Who were they built by. Does anyone haver any photos as I have looked and not many websites have Photos.

Thank You,

Eric

Hi Eric.
The GF6C locomotives were built by General Motors and were built to take advantage of a nearby hydroelectric dam. They were needed because of two long tunnels on the Tumbler Ridge Subdivision. Youre right, there arent a lot of pictures of the Electric locomotives mostly because of the remote location they worked. http://www.northeast.railfan.net/images/tr_bcr6004.jpg (3 here) http://kohutphotos.com/mjkohut/photo5/index.htm (a few here - if you look youll find interior pix) check 'em out. The one at Prince George Railway Museum is the last of its kind. The others were scrapped at CEECO in May and June, 2005.

I hope this one works better. Its a bit better anyways. http://www.cnrphotos.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=288 These CN photo rosters dont always work for very long so enjoy while you can. BTW, the pics taken at New Westminster were of the units headed to CEECo where they were scrapped. The other is a pic of the unit as new before delivery.

Does anyone have suggestions of where I might find mechanical/electrical information on the GF6C's? I'm looking for specifications relating to the types of trucks, motors, control and brake schedules for these locomotives. Thanks!
