The Boston & Worcester Street Railway powerhouse in Framingham, Mass. is still standing, has had several other uses since the mid-1920s and for now you can even get up close to it. It is open as an indoor flea market on Saturdays and Sundays. The building looks to be in pretty good shape and on the front it shows AD 1902. Up higher is probably B & W St. Ry., but a sign for Central Products Co. is covering up that. The powerhouse is on the banks of the Sudbury River and backs up to the CSX line to Leominster. The river was the water source to make the steam and the railroad, then the New Haven, delivered coal to fire the boilers. While it looks like a powerhouse on the outside, it looks like a flea market inside. The B & W switched to buying commercial power in the mid-1920s and disposed of the powerhouse. The location is 494 Franklin Street, Framingham, MA. Look for the sign for CV's BARK MULCH or the festive balloons by the entry driveway.
