Anyone know if any former CNJ (B&O) SD 40s are still active ? Last I knew they were lease units. That was probably 15 years ago.Reason I ask is the NS cement local (old LNE job) had a leased SD 40 in UP colors yesterday. Thought some of the CNJ units were in that scheme. Maybe I'm wrong. Like I said,it's been 15 years.

Well, they just repainted an SD45-2 in EL heritage paint, wouldn't it be nice if they took one of these SD-40's and gave it the CNJ scheme? I know they weren't original CNJ units anyway, but...

Hi there,

Chris Toth's "NS Dash-9" website shows SD40-2 #3445 as rebuilt from SD40 that was originally B&O 7484, which
then became CNJ 3063. It later became CR 6287 and re-numbered to 6996 after being rebuilt to a SD40-2.

This looks to be the only remaining one, at least on the NS roster.

The red baron SD40 from what i've been able to gather is still sitting stored in the midwest in UP paint but under emdx or another leaser's reporting mark's. It was still photographed as of last year.
