I am interested in learning more about the Boston & Maine's GATC 4180 Airslide Covered Hopper that was painted for the Prince Spaghetti. Apparently, the B&M took one of its gray airslides and painted it for Prince Spaghetti in Lowell MA, including the iconic “Wednesday is Prince Spaghetti Day” slogan. I think they only did one car, and it came out in 1984. I model early 1984 and am wondering when exactly this car came out, and perhaps the history behind it. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks.

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for my question... perhaps it belongs in the Pan Am forum?

Can't answer your question but I did eat there once at the Prince Grotto restaurant in the 70s.

A little history for anyone interested:

Prince Pasta was so successful that in 1917 the owners constructed a seven-story building on nearby Commercial Street, complete with a railroad track that entered through the back, delivering semolina flour directly to the plant.

There are two rail bridges in Lowell that still have Prince placards - over Lawrence Rd heading northeast (yard to Lowell junction section) and over 3A/Gortham St heading south. I should probably look at the other sides.

I always thought Prince Spaghetti was based in the North End. RIP Anthony. https://orderisda.org/culture/stories/a ... ies-at-63/

Make that Lawrence St. in Lowell.

Drove under that bridge this past weekend. Instead of black with a sign the bridge is now silver and has a small CSX logo. Hope some bar removed the spaghetti relics.

/I would have voted that the other bridge was rustier and more in need of paint.
