Has there been any thought given to reopening the Atlanta-Birmingham route? With the amount of intermodal traffic slowly but surely rising, NS might get swamped. Also, if NS drops one on the ground, what would the detours be like?

Detours:

Either:

North via Chattanooga, TN;

or

South via Columbus, GA

I don't know what the connection is like in LaGrange Georgia, but I've always assumed CSX has a Birmingham to Atlanta line: the Lineville sub. It goes from Birmingham to LaGrange Georgia, then you can go northeast to Atlanta on whatever that line is called. It's a fairly direct routing.

C&O would be correct, b`ham to lagrange then atlanta
