Assistant Conductor Hat Badge

Does anyone know the reason why the NYC's Assistant Conductor Hat Badge had a different design from all of the other NYC hat badges? I have seen Conductor, Brakeman, Baggageman, Station Master, Assistant Station Master, Gateman, Station Agent, and all had the same design, while Assistant Conductor was far more simple and had the job title surrounded by blue.
