The footbridge over the lake between Fifth and Sunset Avenues in Asbury park NJ was once the trolley bridge connecting both halves of Emory Street. Since around 1928, when the trolley lines were shut down, the bridge was utilized as a footbridge, a little known fact for most locals. Hurricane Sandy came through the area in October 2012 and caused the ocean and lakes to surge and overflow, and the poor bridge took it hard. It is now closed and off limits and collapsing slowly into the lake, and there are no plans or money to repair it. Maybe the shortest rail-trail around, but in use just the same, until last October.
