This individual couldn't possibly be a railfan. We couldn't possibly be foolish enough to get run over. The article is from WIVB local TV.

(Buffalo, NY, July 1, 2004) - - Buffalo police are investigating a deadly accident in the railyards on the city's east side.

A man was struck and killed by a train around Noon near Broadway and Titus Avenue.

Officers say he got caught under a train while crossing the tracks with a bicycle. They say it appears he was hit and then dragged about 500 feet.

Buffalo Police Department Lt. Gale Allen said, "It looks like the train was backing up and travelling east, after getting clearance from the tower and the individual got caught, the bike was also run over and the individual was dragged this far."

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers say he's in his forties.

well just a side note to this subject, the newspaper as usual got the story wrong, from talking to a few yardmasters and what was posted in the csx network log (employee acess only).the newspaper said the man was hit when he was crossing behind the train , which is not true , but he was trying to get across the train by crossing between 2 rail cars with his bike and the train started to move ( trespassers crossing the 3 tracks( 5 ,6 and sycamore lead)at baily ave is common and a big problem day in and day out 24/7 and it was only a matter of time before this was gona happen, this was alos a RCO job and did not have a enginer on the head end , but the rco operator was at the head end operating the train

"only a matter of time..."??? No.. but better phrase - It HAS NOT CHANGED! couple years ago, a little black 11 or 9 yr old boy walked across the yard and I believe that his foot got caught in switch and train ran over him and cut his foot off..

ken.
