KINGSTON, R.I. — No injuries were reported after an Amtrak Northeast Regional train struck track equipment near Kingston on Friday night, according to news reports.

WJAR-TV reports Washington-Boston train No. 178, carrying about 200 passengers, struck the equipment about 11:20 p.m. The station’s website has a photograph of an Amfleet coach immediately behind ACS64 locomotive No. 645 with damage to its front end and a gash extending several feet across a door and down the car’s side.

A little bit of additional information - train 178 was operating on TK 1 when it passed the work train on TK 2 at
Davisville, RI. WE still don't know what was protruding from the cars on the work train that made contact with
178's cars, or if 178 was operating at timetable speed (125 MPH) or reduced speed per a temporary speed bulletin.
