On Thursday 9/2/21, Amtrak 448, the eastbound Boston Section of the Lake Shore Ltd, had a CTrail P40 as the 2nd unit as it passed the Steaming Tender at Palmer MA running about an hour late. I was expecting Midnight Blue Amtrak P42 #100 to lead this 448 given it was leading Amtrak 48 at Elkhart a little after midnight on 9/2/21. I guess engines must have been changed out at Albany/Rensselaer. Would 448 have set-out the CTrail P40 at Springfield?

Goes to Boston then down to NHV on 67/65.

6705 was trailing the road power when Lake Shore Limited 48 passed Elkhart on 11/8?
Is 6701 in service? 6711 the only other outshopped rebuild?

6701 is indeed in service. Caught it a couple weeks ago on a Hartford Line train at Windsor Locks.

Question - with M8 units expected to take over Shoreline East services in a few weeks, how many diesel locos will CTRail need on a daily basis to operate NHHS and any remaining SLE diesel services? Between the newly-rebuilt GP40s and the in-progress P40 overhaul programme, that's a fleet of 18 locomotives, which seems rather a lot - or are there plans for further service expansions?

I certainly hope there will be service expansions. The annoying differences in service levels on the Hartford Line (half-hourly at some afternoon rush hours, but a huge four-hour gap early afternoon) need to be fixed.

Given that MBTA still hasn’t gone back to pre-pandemic service levels, it doesn’t seem that there’s an equipment shortage even with the rebuild program underway.

838 left CT yesterday and marks the final CTRail P40 to leave CT in the ex-amtrak patches scheme before rebuild. I wonder what CTRail is going to do with 18 locomotives just for Hartford Line service now.
