42 (29) was annulled west of Harrisburg. Passengers were bused to Harrisburg, bused to Lancaster, and put on 652. The equipment ran east with an NS SD70ACe to Harrisburg and ran as an extremely delayed (and virtually empty) revenue section from Harrisburg to NY.

30 (28) ran with an NS leader LHF from west of Pittsburgh to Washington
I am so glad this is happening now and not in July...

Supposedly yesterday or today there was a derailment in Burns Harbor on NS Chicago line and MIchigan trains were cancelled with bus replacement.

Too bad theres not a dedicated passenger mainline that is newly double tracked to the parallel and with multiple crossovers to the NS line. If only... we could name it someting like the "shore line southern" or "chicago south bend and shorline" or something clever, too. Maybe even electrify it some day in 1926.

May 13th evening 13 cars on the ground at CP 485 Burns Harbor ... which is about two miles east of NS's only connection with the NICTD line. If the location is correct and there was a clear path to the west of CP 487 Amtrak theoretically could have used the slow speed connection to NICTD and run on Track 2 to CP 36.0 then through the yard to the Amtrak Michigan line. That would require qualified pilots (probably from CSS due to the use of the yard tracks). A lot of moving parts to line up to create a re-route. NS had a track open by morning.

BNSF had a significant derailment in Minnesota, on the Empire Builder’s route. The Builders are being diverted, earning a 4-6 hour penalty in their runs.

Here's more on the derailment incident which Col. Perkowski reports:

https://www.wqad.com/article/news/regio ... e59eaff1b0

It did involve a COFC train (apparently not one of JBH's; or at least not involving any of his cars on the train) and further appeared to have occurred within the Minneapolis Street grid, as well as causing the commuter train agency to annul service to the Twins ball park.

Train was a hot intermodal, but not a JBH train, although it did have a couple of Hunt containers in the wreck. It happened at Big Lake which is where the Northstar equipment base and shops are located. I think the baseball train was cancelled because of numerous freights backed up along the line.

BNSF dropped cars on the historic Santa Fe mainline east of Garden City, Kansas.
Yesterday’s 3 was annulled at Kansas City.
Yesterday’s 4 was annulled at La Junta.

No information about bustitution from KC to La Junta and vice versa.

On July 30 BNSF dropped cars on the historic Santa Fe mainline near Peabody, Kansas.
3(30) was annulled at Kansas City.
4(29) was annulled at Albuquerque.

There was no bustitution. The trains were cancelled, the passengers were on their own.

Brief, fair use quote:
The westbound train that departed Chicago today will be canceled between Kansas City and Albuquerque, with no alternate transportation provided, while the eastbound train that left Los Angeles on Monday, July 29, will be cancelled between Albuquerque and Chicago. That train arrived in Albuquerque at 12:32 p.m.; westbound No. 3 is scheduled to arrive in Kansas City at 9:48 p.m.

BNSF has confirmed that a train derailed at approximately 12:15 p.m. at Peabody, Kan. There were no injuries to the crew and no threat to the public, a spokeswoman said in an email, and personnel are on site to clear the site as quickly as possible. No other details are available.

Looking like the new tropical storm Francine is going to cut off New Orleans from a few places. Want to bet Amtrak's going to start canceling services for Wednesday into Thursday? Nothing yet...

May not be too bad. Local news says it's only going to be a Class 2.

From Amtrak's Twitter feed:
  • Crescent 19(9) terminating in Atlanta, no replacement service. 20(10) starting in Atlanta, 19(10) terminating in Atlanta.
  • Sunset Limited 2/422(9) terminating in San Antonio, with bus service to replace rest of route.
  • City of New Orleans 59(10) completely canceled.

Last night (9/26) when SILVER STAR 91 got to Raleigh, it stayed in the station for several hours waiting for the line to the south to clear.
Ulitimately, 91 reversed 28 miles back to Selma, where it was combined with SILVER METEOR 97.
Does anyone know what the weather conditions were that closed the old Seaboard?
