A friend who was travelling from Philadelphia to Washington just after Noon on May 2, 2022 reports arriving at 30th St. station to find that every train due to leave after 8:30 a.m. was show as Delayed, except for Acela 2155 due to leave On Time at 12:11 p.m. An announcement was made that anyone with Wilmington, Baltimore, or Washington tickets could ride that Acela at no extra charge. Apparently a Northbound train had been reversed in the station.
I think this was the morning that electric company wires were caused to fall on the catenary in North Jersey.

Yes it was - an automobile had struck a utility pole that resulted in commercial wires falling onto the NEC catenary

Hurricane Ian service: All Amtrak Florida trains for Tues. Sep. 27 through Fri. Sep. 30 are cancelled. The Northbound train from Miami, Florida on Sat., Oct. 1, 2022 is also cancelled, possibly because the Southbound train on Mon., Sep. 26 was cancelled South of Jacksonville.

2212 hit a trespasser yesterday around the 5pm yesterday. According to passengers on board, it was a fatality, which delayed numerous trains and single-tracked between New Carrolton and MARC's Bowie station. Some trains were delayed 2 hours or so.

Train derailed Saturday near Sandusky, OH (WOIO)
SANDUSKY, Ohio (WOIO) - A train derailment took place Saturday afternoon in Sandusky, spilling paraffin wax and prompting power outages...

The Norfolk Southern train was traveling eastbound around 4:20 p.m. when 20 of its 101 cars derailed, according to a spokesperson.

Several of those rail cars jumped the tracks, and plunged over the Columbus Avenue overpass, crashing down to the street below. Neighbors in the area like Tyler Downing told 19 News it’s a real miracle that no one was hurt or killed...

According to Amtrak, one of its trains will bypass the Sandusky station due to the derailment.
Cleanup was still happening on the 9th. As of late:
  • LSL 49/449(8) coupled onto a late Capitol Limited 29(8) for combined service to Chicago.
  • LSL 48/448(8) coupled onto a late Capitol Limted 30(8) for combined service down to DC and then back up to New York.
  • Capitol Limited for the 9th is canceled. LSL operated between Chicago and Toledo, and between Albany and Boston.
  • No word on today (10/10)

Yeah, they're expecting 5 feet. Better get the tall snowplows...

A rotary plow was spotted yesterday in DeWitt (Syracuse). Weather service is calling for 4 t0 5 feet of snow in the Buffalo area. I think I heard they were already close to 2ft this morning in downtown. This could be one of those storms that hit when I was a kid anything that could handle or carry snow went west empty and came back east full. While at work yesterday it sounds like one train a day as far as Syracuse until this thing finally quits.

The previous post partially answerred a question that I wa thinking about.
Could have AMRAK been able to put some trains together on short notice to transport the football fans from Buffalo and Cleveland to Detroit for the game that was moved?
I know that it would have been very short notice but I was just thinking about what flexibility that AMTRAK had for a situation like this.

The Capital Ltd. left Chicago 2:45 late Thurs. night 11/18/22. Was that because extra cars were being added to handle passengers from the cancelled Lake Shore?
The only exceptions may be Empire Service Train 284 East from Syracuse, New York. It left 2 minutes late today and is shown as not cancelled tomorrow, Sat. Nov. 19. It's Zero percent full and sold out both days! It is cancelled at Rochester, New York, etc. I can't find a matching Westbound train.
