I don't know. 30(9) came down on Superliner equipment, so we may have a rare chance of 40(9) starting in DC with that set today. It would be the only time the Floridian would run on a SuperLiner.

Tonight's final 29 (10) will run with the Single Level Equipment. It is currently 2+ hours late and has not left Washington.

Interesting. I wonder about the Superliner set that came in on 30(9) today.

It's going to be "sport" identifying which train is which.

Is #29 the train operating from Miami TO Chicago, or is it #30.

The traditional railroad rule of East/North=Even and West/South=Odd is being challenged by this operation. I must wonder if CSX and NS Employee Timetables will have "silent numbers", much as did SP have with 12 and 13 and the Starlight.

Confirmed 29(10) heading to Chicago was single-level equipment.

I was wondering how they'd manage that. They must of needed the extra time to clean 'em out VS turning them.

Oh well, there goes my hopes on a rare double-level Floridian. :)

When I looked last night, the eastbound CHI-WAS was the 41 Floridian.
The westbound was instead still the 29 Capitol Limited & 2 hrs late; an inauspicious start.....

Interesting report, Mr. Farecard.

So it appears that while on the RF&P and ACL, the Floridian will be properly numbered - Odd; West and South.

I still must wonder if there will be "silent train numbers" assigned for The Floridian when operating over the NYC, PRR, and B&O - an odd numbered train operating Eastward "just ain't Hoyle".

What might our several Operating Employees around here who have chosen to "come out" think about that?

Mr. Wolf, lest we forget that Amtrak has had a double level revenue passenger run.

That was the Auto Train circa '96-'97. The Coaches were Amfleets and the Sleepers were Superliner.

That Auto Train from the past did not have to enter the tunnels under DC to get to Union Station. The furthest north it went was Lorton.

Yes Officer/Captain West Point, I am quite mindful that airlines no longer adhere to E-Even-East. I have flown Eastward from ORD in odd numbered flights. Possibly any flight outbound from a hub is odd, inbound even. I also know of flights that make a continuous turn, say ORD to a Caribbean Island, that will keep the same flight number for the entire outbound and return. So I must acknowledge that air transport has moved away from that convention.

Since there many an airline type around Amtrak, perhaps the convention is also falling away there.

Finally, regarding your comment that Washington (38.9° N, 77.04° W) is compass South of Chicago (41.9° N, 87.6° W) , a review of both CSX and NS Employee Timetables will show the entire route is Timetable East.
