Discussion of steam locomotives from all manufacturers and railroads

A little OT, but I know that in 1956, #611 derailed after it took a curve to fast at Tug River. From what I heard, that accident played a roll in the fact that #611 is still with us today. I have a question: If the accident did not occur, would a different J class steam locomotive be around or would all of them be scrapped?

Huge hypothetical. Really doesn't make sense to be asking something like that.

Her whistle is much nicer this year, so I'm glad I went down to see/hear her.

I was on the Saturday June 4th excursion from Manassas. This was the second time I had ridden behind the #611.

Has there been any discussion on bringing the #611 to do excursions on other parts of the Norfolk Southern system or are they going to keep in running in Virginia/North Carolina for the foreseeable future?
