I researched this on the internet and couldn't find much. Does anyone have a photo of what the inside of the cab of an Alco s2 looks like? (how it would look like operational) Or if not, some kind of blueprint or layout of an s2 cab? Thanks. :)

I found a few shots on railpictures.net:

(on the main page, just select the type of locomotive you're interested in, then select "in-cab photos" from the "Select Category" menu, and hit Find The Photos. It's easy.)

O.k., I think I've read something about it (maybe it's for hot-water cab heating?) but can't remember details. So, since the piping is visible through the front cab window in the last of the four photos MEC407 linked to,

what IS the piping coming out of the side of the hood just in front of the cab on Alco switchers?

Allan,
That pipe is a sand pipe that comes out of the rear sand hopper located inside the hood and it leads down to a trap with an air line leading to it. Take a closer look at the photo showing the left hand view and you can see it just below where that pipe is.
