Mid-Continent Railway Historical Society is working to bring ex-MILW 988, an ALCO RSC-2, to service. The 988 has needed repairs to its powerplant for several years and the trucks were damaged during flooding in 2008.
Last year the trucks were removed and sent to L&S Electric to be rebuilt. Work cannot start until $80,000 is raised to cover initial costs. Mid-Continent has already raised about $25,000 and has recieved the promise of a $30,000 grant for the work. Once the trucks are dismantled and inspected more will likely be needed.
