Was reading in Shaugnessy's book about the D&H the other night about how the forces of Gould and Fiske while in the control of the ERIE attempted to wrangle similiar control of the Albany and Susquehanna. The chapter ends basically with a sentance that reads in part "afterwards, a weary A&S leased itself in perpetuity to the D&H. Was the A&S ever formally merged into the D&H? Or does it still exist as some quiet corporation that receives annual lease payments?[/img]

According to Tony Steele's 1973 Sesquicentennial Map, the A&S was merged into the D&H in 1945.

According to Tony Steele's 1973 Sesquicentennial Map, the A&S was merged into the D&H in 1945.
July 2, 1945, to be exact.

The Delaware and Hudson Railroad Corporation had earlier (April 1, 1930) been authorized by the ICC to acquire, by lease and assignment of lease, control of the Albany and Susquehanna Railroad, which took place shortly thereafter. A&S stock, however, was still publicly issued until 1945, when the D&H exchanged D&H stock and a new issue of A&S bonds for the A&S stock.

The bonds paid 4-1/2, and matured in 1975.
