this year will mark 100 years since the North Island main trunk was opened . The first train was run 100 years ago next week , a parlimentary special , to take politicans and dignitaries from Wellington to Auckland to meet the visiting American Great Fleet .
There are quite a few steam trains been organised over the next few months , making it a good time for steam enthusiasts to visit New Zealand .
