The way redemption awards work has shifted a lot in the last 5-10 years. I don't think you'll find the ability to fly a 2-5 stop connection for ORD->RNO like what you showed above to keep the points redeemed low.

It's no longer a predictable 20/35/50K to go somewhere domestic based on the date. The direction things have been moving is a rough currency equivalent and dynamic pricing against available fares.

Hotels are still in that structured 20/35/50K format but that's because a room night is a little more standard, but that will probably shift as expectations change and they realize their future point liabilities are going up with inflation if the redemption levels don't adjust...
