Not a huge change, but goes to show when the voices are loud enough, it’s a good chance to listen.

Stop being added to BNSF train to aid students

Tuesday, November 01, 2022

A stop will be added to an outbound BNSF Line train starting on the morning of Monday, Nov. 7 to aid students traveling from LaGrange to Benet Academy in Lisle.

Outbound BNSF Line Train No.1205, which departs from Union Station at 6:20 a.m., will add a stop at LaGrange at 6:41 a.m. and then run express to Downers Grove, Belmont, Lisle, Naperville, Route 59 and Aurora.

The change was made at the request of LaGrange area parents who asked Metra if it could provide a travel option for students. Metra and BNSF Railway determined the stop could be added without impacting other trains. The change takes effect Nov. 7.

Really?... Two big flaws with your assertion.

First, the high-ups at BNSF are mostly in places like Fort Worth, Topeka, and Minneapolis.

Second, anyone who's really a high-up at BNSF won't be living downtown with a family. They'll be living out in the wealthier suburbs where access to a quality education don't require a 20 minute train ride...

If anything, it's indicative of just how failed the Chicago Public Schools have become if people closer to downtown are willing to ride a train 20 minutes each way to get a good Catholic prep school education.

Chicago and its school system have nothing to do with it, and LaGrange is not at all economically depressed. No matter the economic status, getting kids to school via something other than their parents' cars is a Good Thing, as far as I'm concerned.

When I still rode the train, there were a couple stops on the UP-NW where you'd see dozens of students getting on/off regularly. Arlington Heights had a Christian academy within walking distance of the train station, and I'm pretty certain the big area Catholic high school ran a bus to the train station. Pretty certain there was another Catholic school near Des Plaines or Park Ridge that also had a bus that would meet certain trains.
