Can someone tell me about these tank cars? Where and what are they used for? What is their weight when loaded? Any info is appreciated.

I'm not able to give a whole lot of info right now (lunchtime!), but briefly these 'pregnant whale' tank cars are from the mid-late 1960s (maybe even the early 1970s), and were designed this way to haul the max capacity within the plate limit of the era (which eventually changed, so they could expand the diameter of the tank as opposed to the length of it).
There have been some articles in print (Rail Model Craftsman I think) about these, and they are being retired (reaching the end of their design lifespan since the 1990s).
