Three freight trains collided in Porter County, Ind. this afternoon, according to sheriff’s authorities.

The trains crashed at 1:18 p.m. in Porter County, 600 north and 500 east, northeast Valparaiso, according to Porter County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lynn Williams.

Two people from the second train were transported to Porter Hospital in Valparaiso with non-life threatening injuries.

72-77 cars is what we heard last nite, think that intermodal was probably doing somewhere between 40-50 in there if they weren't aware. Glad they all are ok, could of been alot worse. Ethanol train was empty luckily.

From what I have heard the trailer train was doing 58. All 3 were west bounds, which corrects what a witness there said. That had to be quite the sight coming around the curve and seeing the derailed cars on your track! Just glad the K train was empty residue. Also glad everyone was ok!

Intermodal train hit the 2nd train which was derailed and fouling the #1 main that the trailer train was on. Guess it hit a box car and then plowed the engine of the 2nd train which was laying across #1 main. Miracle that no one died in this crash.
