On Rt 30 literally just before crossing the Susquehanna River, there is a triple track main that parallels the river. I took the exit and toured the area. The tracks are well used, and contain Wayside signals. A double track main parallels the river, while another line branches off to the east.
I sat there for hours waiting for a train, and saw nothing.
Any idea which line I'm talking about, where it goes, amount of traffic....

Thanks.

Nofolk Southern -- former Conrail/PC/PRR. Conrail called it Enola Branch there through Columbia. The track that goes directional east is a track to Lancaster. Railroad east is the Port Road Branch to Perryville. West goes to Enola/Harrisburg.

All of this is on the Columbia side of the river and not the York side.

This line does not see too much daytime traffic. I think it has something to do with Amtrak traffic on the line in other areas or something to that effect. I usually see a northbound unit coal with 3 or 4 dash-9's on the lead between 650-730 AM heading north at Columbia.

Traffic from Enola/Hbg timed to arrive at Perryville at about 10:30 PM to be allowed on NEC by Amtrak. Movements from Baltimore are off NEC by 6:30 AM for the same reason.
