For years the B&A operated two 2nd class trains between NA Jct. and
North Adams. Trains 721 and 725 south and 722 and 724 north. They
were eliminated between ETT No.156 of Dec. 5, 1948 and ETT #157 of April 24, 1949.
#721 and #725 departed No. Adams at 9:45 AM and 5:00 PM respectively and #722 and #724 departed NA Jct. at 7:35 AM and 11:45 AM respectively. Three of the trains operated daily except Sunday and #725 operated daily except Sat. and Sun. Running time was a little over an hour except for No. 721 which was scheduled for a little over three hours. Normal running time for passenger trains was approximately 40 minutes.
It seems somewhat unlikely that these trains operated for handling only LCL at this late date. Was their operation the result of some other activity such as providing transportation for employee's? Their discontinuance is about the time heavy diesel operations began on the B&A. Anyone have any information on their operation.
