Has the NYA ever used the GP38-2's on the trains that work west of Fresh Pond in Queens up the line to Long Island City, or is that exclusively the territory of the SW-1001's and MP-15ac's?

How about the Brooklyn lines to Bay Ridge and Bushwick?

The old RS-302 which handled the Lower Montauk used to use the Geeps all the time. This is in part too, because the old NYA shop was located in LIC. Any road engine that needed servicing had to head that way. The Geeps are virtually never used on the Bushwick or Bayridge. A few years ago a crew had decent derailment on the Bayridge taking out a good chunk of the road power. El presidente said no more Geeps on the branch only under certain circumstances.

Ahhh the past! Why must that derailment be involved. But lets not forget that it was the MAD GOLFER that ordered yours truely down the branch with those motors cause we were suppose to have 36+ cars...It was a damn shame though to see one of the mighty 38's leaning against a underpass! Oh well, better track maintenance could have prevented it. But instead of putting capitol into it we will just tell crews they are not permitted to bring them down the branch and we will install the mighty gauge rods in the track. They are better than ties anyways! Hmmm I wonder when a crew was told to bring the 38's down there again because of a shortage in power, oh wait that was me and not 6 weeks later LOL

Interestingly, just one day after a General Notice was issued prohibiting the engines from the Bay Ridge and Bushwick, they needed the engines to go back down there.

Just one of the many NYA General Notices that were just "feel good" notices and were broken soon after they were issued because management backed themselves in a corner.

Unit train is a term that describes dedicated service to a consignee, for example, the rock train to Prima from the Tilcon quarries in Connecticut. It's a solid 40 cars of aggregate from one place to another.
