2019 Subway Delay Thread

Here is a fun one with not a lot of information


"Westbound Green Line B, C, D trains delayed up to 10 minutes because of a pulled emergency break on-board a train."

A relative of mine was on a BC train when this happened. A young guy and woman companion in a wheelchair got on the Type 8 and the guy allegedly pulled the e-brake several times at the wheelchair area, but used his body to shield his arm from view. Thinking the train was defective, the T dumped the passengers at Hynes. A CC train came next everyone got on, including the 2 people. The e-brake started to be pulled again. At Kenmore, police came on board and removed the guy and woman and everything was fine afterwards.

To those in the field this is called an "undesired emergency," that is, an emergency application of the brakes that the operator did not call for. After two occurrences of such, the car is to be removed from service and inspected by shop forces. It is unfortunate that a single passenger can create such a service disruption.

Put a camera and an audible alarm. Pulling the emergency brake is just like pulling the fire alarm - it's there for emergencies

What happened over the past two nights. Service was suspended between Boylston and the branches late Monday night into Tuesday morning, and again tuesday night from Park to the Branches.
