Signal issues at Lowell this morning. I heard the switches had to be hand-thrown.

300 was 25 minutes late. 302 was 35 minutes late and had to sweep up all of its own passengers as well as those who had arrived for 304 -- it was the PTC set with the 1514 control car. 304 was 20 minutes late.

Monday, August 19, 9:56 a.m.

The first inbound train from Wachusett this morning (#400) struck and killed a man about 21 years old, apparently at or near the Brighton Street grade crossing at the Belmont-Cambridge line, where trains normally travel very fast. I boarded the next inbound at Concord, which left about 13 minutes late. At or near Lincoln I talked to a conductor or assistant conductor, who said the delay was caused by a fatal accident. A little later it was announced that the train wouldn't go past Belmont but that shuttle buses would be provided from there. Some of us had gotten off at Belmont before new word came to the crew that the train would in fact proceed, after a delay. We ended up going very slowly til past the West Cambridge crossovers, arriving at Porter c. 8 a.m., about 45 minutes late. Not much info on this yet on the WCVB-TV (Channel 5) website except the gender and approximate age of the person hit. Some other trains have been cancelled or delayed.

Multiple cancelations and sever delays on the north side after a fatality in Gloucester this morning.

Not only is the Rockport and Newburyport lines being affected but the news is reporting that trains on the Fitchburg and Lowell lines have also been canceled as result of this incident.

Seems like there's been mess all over the north side the last two commutes. Last night (Wed 8/21), the Haverhill Line had:

217 died in or near Malden.
295 ended up pushing 217 all the way to HAV, incurring a 90-120 minute delay for 217's passengers.
219 & 223 took significant delays, looks like maybe 221 skirted the mess up the Wildcat.
296 cancelled due to equipment and crew going to HAV with the deceased 217.
224 bustituted from HAV to BON due to all of the above.

And then this morning (Thursday 8/22), 202 died apparently at or near Haverhill and was shoved in by a subsequently delayed 204, causing cascading delays all the way back to 208.

Both of these were attributed to mechanical failures on 217 and 202.

And that's before Thursday's 289/290 were cancelled due to the Rockport fatality Thursday morning.

Are the cancellations on the other lines the result of equipment being tied up on the Gloucester Branch due to the fatality?

Basically, short turns went to the eastern route and expresses ran local.

Update: Newburyport Train 160 (7:55 am from Newburyport) remains stopped at North Beverly due to a main engine malfunction and is currently 45-55 minutes behind schedule. Crews are working with our mechanical help desk to resolve the issue. Updates to follow.
Did they end up having push the train back to Boston or did they ever resolve the issue?

Newburyport Train 167 (4:30 pm from North Station) is stopped between Swampscott and Salem due to a drawbridge issue and is currently 5-15 minutes behind schedule.
Hmm, no drawbridge here. It's already made it paste the one near River Works. I know there is an other drawbridge on on the Rockport line, but is there one heading towards Newberryport?

Doh, it’s the Beverly drawbridge. Completely forgot about it. Apparently it is stuck open. All trains are now being replaced with shuttle buses.

2 trains are currently waiting near Salem, one is Swampscott and 3 near Lynn. The 5:40 has been canceled.

Also something is up on the Lowell line. All trains say “Orange Line” on the board at North Station.

It looks like as of 6:30pm (train 337) things were getting back to normal.

===========================================

Lowell service is suspended between North Station & Anderson/Woburn. Heavy machinery is obstructing a track near W Medford due to Green Line Ext work. A shuttle will run between Wellington and Anderson/Woburn for a connection with train/bus service.

For Lowell Line customers headed to Anderson/Woburn and points north: customers should take the Orange Line to Wellington Station, where buses will be staged to transport customers to Anderson/Woburn. From Anderson/Woburn, customers will board Commuter Rail service to complete their trip to Lowell.

For service to West Medford: customers can board MBTA bus route 326 from Haymarket Station for service to West Medford.

For service to Wedgemere and Winchester Center: customers should take the Orange Line to Wellington Station. From there, customers should board MBTA bus route 134 from Wellington Station.

Busing will remain in place while special equipment is dispatched to the area to ensure the drill remains stable until it is removed.

For Lowell Line customers seeking inbound service:

Customers can board buses from Anderson/Woburn that will run express to Wellington Station. From there, customers can board the Orange Line.

The MBTA is also establishing a bus shuttle that will make all regularly scheduled stops between West Medford and Anderson/Woburn along the Lowell Line.

All Commuter Rail passes and tickets will be honored on the Orange Line and shuttle buses for the duration of the diversion.

T Service Alert seen 0530/09-06-2019 shows 400 delayed 5-15 cuzza "freight interference" with updates to follow. The "freight interference" was AYPO stopped for a piece of missing rail between CPF-AY and CPF-WL and being held by D-3 until a Keolis Track Foreman could assess.
AYPO had crossed to 1 and was followed by 400, 22K needing 2 east of AY for headroom to shove back to Hill Yard.

...stopped for a piece of missing rail...
Don't think someone lifted 39'. Probably a metal failure. There may have been specifics, but they were broken by the time they got to me. Mebbe part of the tread?
