Hello,
I'm looking for any photographs of a June 1865 train collision in Carlyle, IL, that occurred on the Mississippi & Ohio Railroad. The two trains collided around midnight in the middle of a trestle crossing the Kaskaskia River near town. The west bound train was carrying the 6th West Virginia Cavalry, a Civil War regiment headed west to guard mail routes in Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming. Most of the regiment's horses were killed in the accident. I have an account that states that a photographer was on hand and took a large number of photos to sell as souvenirs.
Thank you.
