Extra rough on the customers that they are doing it in the winter. Several of these were short on sales but packed full in the cold.

Plus it's being done before e-payments will be implemented for RRD customers ... but of course it means more on-board penalties to bolster the bottom line. 😡😡

Ryan and Jeff - The 14 February 2, 2024 station closings by RRD line are (as they should have been listed) -
Chestnut Hill East Line: Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill East (2)
Chestnut Hill West Line: Chelten Av, Carpenter, St. Martins (3)
Fox Chase Line: Cheltenham (1)
Lansdale/Doylestown Line: North Hills, Oreland (2)
Manayunk/Norristown Line: East Falls (1)
Media/Wawa Line: Clifton, Morton, Wallingford (3)
(RDG Trunk) Glenside Combined: Melrose Park (1)
Warminster Line: Roslyn (1)

From reviewing this list of closings by branch it seems that there are reasonable alternatives for each:
Example: Open ticket offices at Glenside and Fort Washington are available for North Hills and Oreland...

Chestnut Hill East is the only line terminal station on this list - closing because CHW is nearby?
The CHE vintage RDG station building is one of the nicest stone buildings architecturally on RRD...
www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=4893013
Built 1931 during RDG electrification - rectangle blocks read "CHESTNUT HILL STATION READING COMPANY"

Melrose Park and Cheltenham are relatively new ticket offices open along with high-level platform
projects - a nearby ticket office is available at Elkins Park for Melrose Park riders...

Will SEPTA install automatic locks and surveillance cameras to allow passengers to keep using the
waiting room facilities during designated hours or will these also be permanently closed at all times?
As example this is what the LIRR does at stations with waiting rooms and TVMs without ticket offices...

Will there be more "rounds" of RRD station ticket office closings coming up over 2024? MACTRAXX

I have been reliably informed that CHE is closing with the retirement of the agent. There are a few more which are in a similar predicament but I'm not as sure with regards to which ones.

With regards to automatic locks SEPTA did install a way to tap into many of the offices years ago using key cards but I don't believe the system was ever activated at any location. No real surveillance beyond motion activated lights at these previously manned locations afaik. I know the Wawa station has the locks on a timer but I haven't been there since opening to see how that is going.

I know SEPTA station agents are not agency employees, but under contract with the Edens Corporation.

Looks like they are activating the tap to enter system for at least some of soon to be shuttered ticket offices. AM only for the ones I've seen.

I don't have the full list atm but 10 more stations will be losing key sales effective September 20th. Three of them (Swarthmore, Secane, and Lansdowne) are on the Media/Wawa line leaving only 2 sales locations on a line that previously had 8.

Ryan - Thanks for sharing the information on the next round of 10 ticket office closings upcoming in
September 2024...Media and Primos will be the two remaining staffed stations on the M/W Line?

These changes will no doubt limit riders without access to either obtain or place fare products on the
SEPTA Key let alone cash riders that will still have to pay on-board Regional Rail fares...MACTRAXX

Ryan - Thanks for the notification about the upcoming September 20, 2024 ticket office closings...
I will list the 10 locations by line:
Elkins Park - RDG Trunk (Glenside Combined timetable)
Fort Washington - Lansdale/Doylestown Line
Hatboro - Warminster Line
Langhorne - West Trenton Line
Lansdowne, Secane, Swarthmore - Media/Wawa Line
Manayunk - Manayunk/Norristown Line
Queen Lane - Chestnut Hill West Line
Wyndmoor - Chestnut Hill East Line

Some remarks: Elkins Park Station has a local group taking care of the station building and grounds...
"Elkins Park Central" as example is the monthly meeting location for the Philadelphia Chapter-NRHS
(Third Thursday of month except in July and August)...This makes me wonder what their reaction will
be on the notice of the EKP ticket office closing along with the local community...

Fort Washington is a recent building constructed along with the high level platforms and expanded
parking facilities - the nearest sales office will be Ambler less than two miles north on the L/D Line...

Hatboro and Langhorne are both former RDG stations on the Warminster Line and West Trenton Line
respectively - each were strategic sales locations for the areas that these two stations served...

Manayunk was revived along with the rebuilding of the Viaduct/elevated structure and was part of the
regentrification of that neighborhood area...It will be interesting to see the local Manayunk community
reaction to the sales facility closure...

Wyndmoor was another location in the Chestnut Hill area that was convenient for the neighborhood
and was an alternate ticket office for both Chestnut Hill East and West commuters...With CHE Station
closed only CHW remains as a sales location - Open 5:30 to 10:30 AM on weekdays only...

This reminds of the wave of ticket office closings about a decade ago on Metro-North after TVMs were fully added
around the system. Now only major terminals including GCT, 125th, Croton-Harmon, Poughkeepsie, White Plains,
Stamford and New Haven remain open with agents on duty.

NJT retained station agents after all these years.

Sorry to hear of his passing. About a year ago, when as an occasional SEPTA user, I bought my first fare card from him, he was very helpful and gave me a quick lesson on the use of the card.

And I assume now that there is no longer a staffed ticket office at Langhorne as per the earlier posts? Is the Levittown ticket office still operating ?

H-E: Answering your questions - See: www.septa.org/stations
This is a listing of ALL SEPTA Stations that includes Regional Rail ticket sales or waiting room hours.

1-Langhorne should be staffed by an extra clerk until the final close date of Friday September 20, 2024.
Address: Langhorne Station, 137 Comly Avenue, Langhorne, PA 19047 - Sales Hours 5:15 to 11:15 AM MO-FR.

2-Levittown no longer has a staffed ticket sales office.
Levittown Station waiting room access for SEPTA Key holders is 5 to 11:15 AM Monday thru Friday.

Beginning Monday September 23 Langhorne Station (and at least some of the other nine stations in
this closure round) may have their waiting rooms made accessible for SEPTA Key card holders for a
limited time period in a similar manner...MACTRAXX
