Rumors floating about a new #1001. Anyone know if this is true? Something to do with this "rolling stock solutions" company.

F40PH-4C 1001 is coming in primer. 10 unit program with work performed at CAD and MEI.

Ironically, it appears that the 1001 is ex-Amtrak 316 - the F40 given to the MBTA by Amtrak for the close-out to the MBTA commuter contract. The T never did anything with it. To Titan Rail, then VRE/LTE(?).

Anyone know all the core units for this program?

There are no identifiers on the 1001 that give away its prior history -- if you obtained that history from a verifiable source please let us know. RSS.CAD/MEI have not released any info and while RSS has YouTube videos showing the production process they don't verify specifically which process became 1001. Cores for the program come from LTE and include units leased to AMT and at least one former VRE unit. Known cores include: LTEX 243, 287, 372, 400, and ex-VRE V36 and ex-SLC 293. That leaves four that are not known. Two of the earliest units in the program include V36 and 293, but whether they are the cores for 1001 or not has not been confirmed.

SLC 293 was one of the ones MBTA leased a few years ago, correct?

I have confirmation that the 1001 is ex-VRE V36 (ex-AMTK 316)

SLC/Amtrak Units leased to the MBTA were: 274, 293, 301, 32, 310, 330 & 418.
301, 330, 310 delivered to BET 5/23/15 via Readville Switcher
293, 302 due out of BET 5/24/15
274 & 418 delivered to BET 6/21/15.

does this rebuild "F40PH-4C" have AC traction motors, or DC?

DC traction doesn't go well with EPA emissions equipment.

Take the 3Cs as an example

The traction motor listed on the spec sheet is a DC model.

I am confused, is someone saying that there are F40s getting built for the next generation?

Not built, REbuilt. Rolling Stock Solution is making rebuilt F40PH-4Cs as leaser units they can hand out whenever railroads need them, and the MBTA was chosen as the beta tester.

Looks like these have a separate HEP Unit. I wonder if they'll be wearing the original screamer scheme

As far as I can tell the only "4th generation" of these things is the tier 4 HEP generator. The prime mover is the same Tier 0+ of any other EMD 645 rebuild. I can't imagine there's a lot of demand for a lease fleet of these and it seems like a lot of hype over a run of the mill rebuild.
