Well, I finally got that rebuild train, with getting 01846 leading northbound on Tuesday, Nov 7 with ad in window and ASA being fine. Then I got 01866 on Wedsnesday, 11/15 from Park Street till Braintree with an ad in window, but it was lowered enough that it didn't require me to the the innapropiate-seat occupy stunt. And I liked the new seats too with the grabbars which reminded me of their predecessor 01400s!! )1866/67, 01842/43 and 01846/47 is the trainset that has been rebuilt.

When my outbound train stopped at Central today, the 01800 going inbound displayed 'DAVIS' then 'EXPRESS' alternating every 10 seconds or so. Obviously malfunctioning, but when is a destination like this even neccessary? Has anyone ever been on a 'Davis Express'?

I haven't but they will sometimes use express trains to various stations to close the gap between trains. If a train breaks down, once the problem is resolved, they will send it express to make up for the time it has lost

*These two have the Display screen as defective, hence the sticker "Bad Screen" being applied to them.

And as for the rest of the story, these are the 01800s that I have ridden as lead cars since April. 01883, 57, 25, 34 and 81 had open windows while the remainder had Ads in their railfan windows. ASA on some (dont recall) was fine, others, either the train attendant was disabling it or it was malfunctioning.

FYI 01881-01830 were done in from Alewife to Park Street abnd back since I had something to do that night that way on Apr 12.

Just a stupid fun fact.... but has anyone noticed that the "Bad Screen" labels now say "need craBS"!

I was just on a Red Line 1800 train leaving Park Street, Alewife-bound. The ASA proudly announced, "This train will be express to Charles-MGH!" Well I sure hope so!

Then leaving Charles, the ASA proudly repeated, "Next stop, Kendall/MIT," over and over and over and over until we stationed at Kendall/MIT. The passenger next to me smugly asked me, "What station is this?" :-D

On Saturday, I took the Redline to Park Street, then once it stopped, the signs displayed, "express", this one was going to Havard Sq from Park

There was a green line Type 8 that was stuck on the message "No Smoking Please" The operator made jokes about it while he was announcing the stops.

Last night from Park Street till Braintree, I got 01808. The motorinstructor's side window had adas, however, the motorperson's side window's curtain was open enough to let mee see out front that way. Was cool. ASA Was fine, and the seats were replaced including the new grabbars and ride was smooth.

Yesterday AM, I got 01842 from Braintree till DTC. Got seat, but there were ads in window, ASA was out of place at times so train attendant did some station announcements, and ride was smooth.

This morning out of Braintree I got 01842 yet again (now twice this week, same exact trip (6:15AM) till DTC. Got seat, but there were the same ads in window like Monday morning, ASA was out of place at times so train attendant did some station announcements, and ride was smooth. Also, the seats were updated and it had grabbars

On Friday 5/9, I received 01856. Window was open thus enabling me to see out front really well without doing the seat trick despite the rain. ASA was fine also, and ride was smooth.

On Mon Morning 5/12, I got 01849, this time however, it had one ad in window. ASA was a bit fouled up so the train attendant had to announce some stops but ride was smooth also

Didn't catch a number, but waiting at Charles MGH outbound yesterday I saw an inbound 01800 approaching that was having "The destination of this train is....Ashmont" Tourettes. Quite amusing...you could hear the announcement way off in the distance from about 1/4 of the way up the Longfellow as the train slowed into the station. Must've repeated 7 or 8 times in a row before the operator cut the ASA. I don't know if the passengers on the train had gone insane yet, but the people on the platform were saying "you know, I think this is an Ashmont train."

Oh Wow, that's happened before, sometimes some ASA's say out the Red Line Station Names starting with "Alewife........Davis Square...........Porter Square.............Harvard Square" and beyond.

And as for me, I got 01805 last night with the open ad-free window I got to see out front while the ASA was fine and the ride was smooth. Exactly likewise for this morning's 01813 from Braintree till Washington. Ride was good too, however 01805 and 13 have the black seats still but 01813 had the grabbars.
